Coming next month: faster CPUs for lab tests

We've kept our monitoring infrastructure consistent over the last 6 years, but on 1 January we'll be moving to faster CPUs in most of our test regions. You'll see improved scores as a result of this.

Why this change?

  • Our CPUs will be closer to a typical user CPU
  • PageSpeed Insights recently changed their CPU throttling causing a metric change in the same direction
  • Some of our test regions already use the faster CPUs, and after this change all regions will be comparable
  • Test results should be slightly more consistent over time, especially if the main thread on a website is typically very busy
